About the event
Joanna brings insights from six years of in-depth PhD research on self-injury and emotion to inform this workshop.
Self-injury is a deeply emotive and complex issue that often triggers strong emotional responses in those encountering it, whether personally or professionally. This session invites you to engage in a thoughtful discussion about the historical context and psychological functions of self-injury, offering a nuanced understanding of its multifaceted nature.
Together, we will explore your emotional responses to working with or supporting individuals who self-injure, including clients, colleagues, or family members. Additionally, we will examine the role of fear and associated emotions within the culture of counselling and psychotherapeutic practice, uncovering how these feelings shape our interactions, understanding, and approaches to care.
Payment details will be sent following your booking. Places are £60 payable by Bank Transfer.
