About the event

This workshop delves into the intricate dynamics of voyeurism and self-injury, exploring the emotional responses and unconscious reactions of both clients and therapists in the therapeutic process. Participants will examine the complex interplay of curiosity, discomfort, and deeper unconscious drives, as well as the ethical and relational challenges these dynamics present.


Drawing on insights from her PhD, phenomenology, psychoanalysis, and personal reflection, Joanna examines the nuances of empathy in therapy with clients who self-injure. It highlights the emotional complexities, fascination, and voyeuristic fantasies that can arise when engaging with clients who represent radical otherness. Together, we will discuss how these reactions influence therapeutic relationships and explore the delicate balance between curiosity, ethical boundaries, and fantasy in shaping meaningful connections.


By recognising the mystery and complexity of human experience, participants will deepen their understanding of authentic empathy while fostering self-awareness and professional integrity in their practice. This workshop is designed to…
